The puppets with doll heads are made from manmade objects like surreal sculptures often were.
According to Alexandrian (1970 p.141)
“It is usually an old-fashioned manufactured object, whose practical /function is not evident and about whose origins nothing is known.”
The lower parts of the doll head puppets are on wheels we assume that they are repurposed machines, but we don’t know what they are. Whereas the porcelain dolls heads are mass produced objects that we can clearly identify like a product that would be used in a readymade surrealist object as Alexandrian (1970 p.141) defines:
“The readymade. This term can be applied only to an industrially mass- produced object whose function is altered’.
The old-fashioned items help to create the gothic style and the dolls heads without hair or eyes are uncanny they are nearly human but lacking key features, so it is unsettling.
Time also runs in a surreal way the puppets head is removed. At 15.09 the man puppets head is removed and replaced with a dolls head but at 15:23 his head is back on his body the music eerily ticks sounding like folk violin but also as if it’s being made by a machine that is running out of power. These things combined give the impression that time is not moving normally, and this is also unsettling.
